Building on the Past and for the Future

In 1945 California passed legislation that authorized voter approval to form special tax districts in order to build and operate local public non profit hospitals. In 1968, voters in eastern Stanislaus County formed the Oak Valley Hospital District to serve residents of Oakdale, Knights Ferry, Valley Home, Waterford, and the surrounding areas.  In 1970 voters authorized a $1.75 million general obligation bond to build a hospital. It was completed three years later.

For the next 30 years, the hospital expanded services to meet the medical needs of its growing and changing population.  By 2004, it became clear to hospital officials, physicians and community leaders that the aging hospital would not meet the needs of the community indefinitely.  District voters overwhelmingly approved a $37 million obligation bond to help build a new hospital.  Combined with hospital reserves, revenue bonds and contributions totaling $40 million, the Oak Valley Hospital Board moved forward and broke ground in December 2008 beginning construction of a 123,000 square foot hospital scheduled for completion in 2011.

Acme Construction of Modesto was awarded the construction contract and posts progress at www.acmeconst.com/oakvalley/  Follow the progress with us.

October 2011 Update

After years of planning and three and a half years of construction, we are on schedule to open the first floor of our new hospital for patient services.  Before we transition from old to new, we want everyone in the community to tour their state-of-the-art facility.

Pre-Opening Community Tours will be announced soon.  District residents who have helped finance the project will be able to tour the Emergency Department, Medical Laboratory, Imaging/Radiology, In Patient and Out Patient Surgical Services, and Materials Management before those units are transitioned.  Once we have received final state licensing for relocation of services, many of these areas will not be available for public tours.

This will be the only opportunity for our supporters, businesses, and residents to have a behind-the-scenes hands-on experience and we hope everyone will take time from their busy schedules to join us.
