In 1945 California passed legislation that authorized voter approval to form special tax districts in order to build and operate local public non profit hospitals. In 1968, voters in eastern Stanislaus County formed the Oak Valley Hospital District to serve residents of Oakdale, Knights Ferry, Valley Home, Waterford, and the surrounding areas. In 1970 voters authorized a $1.75 million general obligation bond to build a hospital. It was completed three years later.
For the next 30 years, the hospital expanded services to meet the medical needs of its growing and changing population. By 2004, it became clear to hospital officials, physicians and community leaders that the aging hospital would not meet the needs of the community indefinitely. District voters overwhelmingly approved a $37 million obligation bond to help build a new hospital. Combined with hospital reserves, revenue bonds and contributions totaling $40 million, the Oak Valley Hospital Board moved forward and broke ground in December 2008 beginning construction of a 123,000 square foot hospital scheduled for completion in 2011.

Acme Construction of Modesto was awarded the construction contract and posts progress at www.acmeconst.com/oakvalley/ Follow the progress with us.
People keep asking me why the new building is "wrapped in white" and what's going on inside. It's a great question, but there is no mystery involved. Inside construction is now taking place and the "white PVC wrap" is to protect from weather elements.
It's easy to see what is happening inside, however. Just click on the ACME construction web site link "www.acmeconst.com/oakvalley/" and you will find a weekly update of photographs depicting current and past construction phases. Click on the most recent galley of photos and you can see first hand the inside structure beginning to shape.
We are still on schedule and on budget and we will continue to use this we page to keep the public, our patients and our employees informed about construction. As always, if you have additional questions please call or email me. I welcome the opportunity to bring the community up-to-date on our exciting new hospital.

The Hospital project has taken on a whole new look. The white PVC wrap seen around the building was installed to help the construction crew work through the rainy weather and to stay in compliance with the Office of Statewide, Health and Planning Development (OSHPD), the state agency responsible for oversight inspections on the project site.
The east side of the building has been completely fireproofed. With the sprinkler piping having been installed, as well as interior and exterior metal stud wall framing, it is now easy to see the hospital’s floor layout taking shape. Currently work is being done on the first phase which includes the emergency, radiology and laboratory departments.
It is an exciting to be able to walk down future corridors and envision the patient flow of the new Oak Valley Hospital. Acme Construction and subcontractors continue to do an outstanding job with quality and safety. Our monthly tours are still available. Members of the public are invited to join a tour.
