Position Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner, under physician direction is responsible for performing medical examination, diagnosis common medical conditions, managing stable phases of chronic illness, coordinating health management and assisting the clinic physician in delivering care to patients. This position may also function independently performing off-site physical examinations.

The following are general job accountabilities:

Under physician direction, provides primary care services to clinic patients including prescribing, dispensing or transmitting medications in accordance with standardized procedures and current state regulations.


  1. Under the Providers direction, provides primary care services to clinic patients including prescribing, dispensing or transmitting medications in accordance with standardized procedures and current state regulations.
 
  1. Provides general counseling, guidance, and health instructions to individual patients and family members.
 
  1. Participates in the monthly medical staff meetings as required.
 
  1. Assists the Medical Director and staff providers in organizing and implementing appropriate quality assurance activities.
 
  1. Works independently with minimum on-site supervision.
 
  1. Functions as part of a team in the provision of patient-care and performance of daily activities.
 
  1. May supervise health care professionals and paraprofessional staff.
 
  1. May be assigned to work in any department according to OVHD policy.
 
  1. Performs physical examinations off-site utilizing designated employer examination guidelines.
 

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:

  • Satisfactory completion of a formal Nurse Practitioner Training Program or Physician’s Assistant Certification at an accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of customs and beliefs and needs of a consumer group(s) served
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.

Minimum Experience/Skills:

  • At least 1 year experience as NP or PA
    Able to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Able to record information accurately in English
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), written and verbal, preferred

Licenses/Certificates/Credentials:

  • Current NCCPA
  • All NP's must have "grandfathered" Board certification through NP Board program
  • Masters level preferred or equivalent.
  • Current AHA BLS certification
