Admitting Clerk (Oakdale) - Per Diem

Job Description

Admitting Clerk I ensures that all functions related to the registration of patients are completed in an efficient manner ensuring that all necessary information, authorizations and signatures are obtained.  Responsible for the appropriate placement of patients in order to maximize bed utilization.  Promotes customer service through active communication, understanding the needs and concerns, and providing resolution with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.
Facilitates pre-admission scheduling activities, balances statistics and acts as a liaison to physicians’ office.   Monitors patients stated insurance benefits to afford maximum reimbursement to OVHD for services rendered.  Contributes to team effort by remaining flexible and open-minded, maintaining cooperative working relationships, sharing resources and information, and assisting co-workers in time of need.

  1. Responsible for registration of all patient types by collection of necessary registration and billing information and inputs this information into the computer system.
  1. Collects necessary deposits, deductibles and co-payments  Ensure compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) – Data Security Standards (DSS) and training, with regards to credit card transactions and card holder information.
  2. Secures room assignments with the co-operation of the nursing stations and/or the Shift coordinator for incoming patients.
  1. Records and places patient valuables in the safe.
  1. Has knowledge of various legal consents and appropriate forms requiring signatures.
  1. Keeps aware of current changes in all health insurance guidelines through departmental memos and by attending staff/training meetings.
  1. Communicates effectively with other employees, physicians, patients and their family members and responds appropriately to any concerns.
  1. Takes orders for transfers from physicians, and/or other hospitals.
  1. Pre-Admits all scheduled admissions per telephone, personal interview or from a Pre-Admission form, obtaining all necessary information for registration and billing purposes.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Minimum Experience/Skills:
Previous registration, insurance, medical office experience preferred
Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Knowledge of computer input and skills
Good communication and guest relation skills
Able to perform basic mathematical calculations
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
