Medical Assistant - Oakdale & Escalon Clinics (Oakdale) - Full Time
Location: Oakdale, CA
Provides clerical support and assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider or a Nurse. Performs specific clerical duties, coordinates departmental communications and provides administrative support to Management Team.
Maintains and updates patient records assuring proper procedures and maintenance of medical records, accurate systems for billing, data processing, accounts payable and accurate logs for Occupational Health patient referrals.
Assures all physical examinations forms are complete and medical record includes necessary lab work.
Obtains phone/written payer prior authorization for treatment/diagnostic services and consultation.
Properly files diagnostic reports and incoming correspondence in appropriate charts
Monitors and coordinates use of facility by maintaining accurate appointment log for patients and follows up on failed appointments.
Maintains patient service activity log and summarizes data periodically to assure department activity level.
Verifies information with provider when in question.
Reduces patient anxiety and promote cooperation and compliance by making appointments for pre-placement screening, referral care appointments and diagnostic imaging.
Performs clerical duties as directed, including distributing mail to/from and with department, organizes and maintains office information systems and files to ensure access and use of Occupational Health Center information, and at the discretion of licensed staff, composes correspondence to interdepartmental/external sources.
The following are unit-specific accountabilities
Provides customer service interfacing with the patients, insurance companies and physician’s offices. Demonstrates efficient and courteous customer service that includes assisting in person or on the telephone. Answers incoming phone calls and questions and concerns presented by patients, physicians, insurance companies and other hospital personnel. Responsible for identifying and distributing daily correspondence. Responsible for taking payments and balance of Cash drawer as needed.
Assists nurse and provider with patient care, including exam room set-up, history review (non-urgent, single system complaint), vital signs, specimen collection, assist with inter-facility transfers/referrals, wheelchair transport. Recognizes and relates pediatric growth milestones.
Communicates delays to family or patient that may impact their expeditious medical care and recognizes need for patient or family to verbalize concerns. Communicates patient concerns to appropriate team members. Assists in communicating reportable issues and can identify and retrieve CPS, APS, domestic violence, rape reporting, poison control and other emergency agency forms or phone numbers.
Performs non-patient care activities including patient registration (Meditech), stocking supplies, inventory and ordering supplies, preparing instruments to be sent to central processing, maintenance/housekeeping duties, charting and logging, front desk support, I.C.D. coding, medical record filing/assembly/disassembly, equipment calibration, money collection, clean exam room.

Monitors/Tracks annual health screens and random drug program and assures timely notification to all employers when drug screens are due.
Maintains a current understanding of DOT regulations regarding drug and alcohol screening procedures.
Reviews all Employee Health records on a monthly basis for annual screening and notifies employees monthly when annual screenings are due.
Prepares monthly report and statistics on employees for Safety, illness, and injury committee.
Completion of Medical Assistant certification course
Basic knowledge of governmental and managed care programs
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Experience in an outpatient health facility or physician’s office for a minimum of two (2) years
Demonstrates ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Able to perform basic mathematical calculations
Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm
Ten-key by touch and must be computer literate
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Medical Assistant Certificate
Current AHA BLS
