Surgery Scheduler (Oakdale) - Part Time

Job Description

Schedules elective surgery procedures for the surgery department and performs clerical duties.  Functions include scheduling surgical procedures, department statistics, updating operative records and assisting with patient charges.   Ensures that elective surgeries are scheduled in a manner that enables the department to run smoothly and efficiently.

  1. Schedules accurately surgery procedures for OR, Pain Management and GI Laboratory.
  1. Coordinates the OR schedules with Anesthesia Department, and varying equipment needs.
  1. Confirms procedures scheduled during off-hours.
  1. Prepares OR schedule for distribution, as well as call schedules, and daily work schedule.
  1. Maintains records of MD suspensions and privileges.
  1. Compiles monthly statistics for distribution.
  1. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care for the neonate through the adult (18 to 70 years), and geriatric (70+ years) population, including communicating effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.  Adapts approaches based on recognized cultural and religious diversity.
  1. Cooperates and communicates with other personnel in a positive manner to achieve departmental and interdepartmental objectives and maintains good employee relations, uses lines of authority appropriately, communicates effectively with nurse in charge.
  1. Demonstrates respect and sensitivity to patient’s comfort and confidentiality.
  1. Assists with transport of patients/ATC and chart compilation.
  1. Answers telephones in a prompt and courteous manner, addressing callers and patients appropriately by name and/or title.
  1. Demonstrates flexibility in the work setting with changing assignments, varying staffing levels and completes work on time.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:
Knowledge of scheduling procedures preferred 
Medical Terminology class or equivalent
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Minimum Experience/Skills:
Minimum of one (1) year clerical experience preferably in a medical center or similar institution and knowledge of schedule procedures preferred
Computer skills
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Spelling and legible handwriting required  
Able to type 45 wpm
Able to perform basic mathematical calculations
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Good telephone etiquette
Current BLS certification
Physical Demands:
