Pharmacy Technician (Oakdale) - Per Diem
Location: Oakdale, CA
Pharmacy Technicians assist Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medication, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy Technicians work only under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a Registered Pharmacist.
Contributes to the effective operation of the Pharmacy Department.
Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required.
Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
Enters medication orders into the Pharmacy computer system accurately.
Answers requests at the window and makes stat deliveries to patient care areas when requested.
Notifies Pharmacist of any problems/discrepancies relating to billing (e.g., late charges, need for new charge codes, lack of patient information for billing, etc.).
Participates in the inservicing and training of new associates.
Minimizes wastage of IV’s by recycling viable medications that are returned to Pharmacy; following up on discontinued IV’s, discharges and expirations of patients; and preparing medication accurately and properly the fist time. Discards wasted medications, glass items, needles and syringes appropriately.
Maintains a good working knowledge of the preparation of sterile products as it relates to proper aseptic technique, reconstitution, dilutents and volumes, expiration dates and compatibility's.
Records cleansing dates/times of laminar flow hoods.
Maintains adequate stock of medications according to established policies and procedures.
Receives supplies from vendors and assures that invoices/packing slips match supplies received.
Assists in ordering, receiving and unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.
Repackages and labels oral bulk products to unit dose in a timely and accurate manner and maintains appropriate documentation of such.
Prevents stock-outs, particularly of commonly used times.
Notifies Buyer of any items that are low in stock, or of any items that are overstocked.
Safely and competently uses equipment and obtains necessary training prior to initial equipment use. Assures equipment is in operating order prior to use and uses the following equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s operating instructions. Including, but not limited to: computer, printer, pumps, pyxis, pre-packing equipment.
7. Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner.
Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program required
Strong computer and typing skills
High school graduate or equivalent required.
One to two years hospital pharmacy and inpatient experience preferred
Able to perform basic mathematical calculations
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Technician Registration required (California State Board of Pharmacy)
Technician Certification preferred
Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking
Lifts, positions, pushes up to 50 pounds
