1. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan.
2. Adheres to OVHD practices for pain management with specific consideration of patient’s functional/developmental age, gender, cultural and/or personal preferences.
3. Ensures patient safety by assessing and proactively implementing safety measures with specific consideration of patient’s functional and developmental age.
4. Maintains integrity of patient belongs.
5. Provides appropriate nursing interventions. Competent in all routine nursing skills, including, but not limited to, 1) medication administration, 2) intravenous therapy, 3) management of indwelling catheters and drains, and 4) safe use of any medical equipment, such IV pumps.
6. Ensures that the operations and nursing care follow OVHD and department policies and standards. Keeps Nurse Manager informed when difficulties and/or unusual situations occur. Functions as Resource Manager when assigned and provides for allotted meal and break periods for staff.
7. Demonstrates the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures.
8. Provides compassionate and caring support to families.
9. Determines the presence and type of Advance Directive, as appropriate.
10. Completes legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided to patients, including an evaluation of patients’ response to medications, treatments and procedures.
11. Delegate’s patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluates effectiveness of care performed.
12. Accesses facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job related responsibilities. Follows hospital’s policy and procedure as they pertain to all hospital information systems.
13. Participates in activities within the organization that support performance improvement.
14. Protects hospital resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
15. Maintains required applicable education and in-service requirements and participates in departmental staff meetings (through attendance or reading meeting minutes).
16. Communicates and follows the organization’s chain of command for notification of patient care and/or service issues.
17. Expresses and accepts feedback in a professional manner.
18. Demonstrates the ability to organize workload, set priorities, and uses time efficiently to complete work on time and in an organized manner.
19. Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
20. Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the professional environment and OVHD’s policy regarding hospital provided uniforms/scrubs.
Moderate sedation competent.
Demonstrates knowledge of the GI equipment, care, cleaning and use of endoscopes.
Demonstrates knowledge of Medivator.
Performs all other related care and use.
Graduate of a RN School of Nursing
Associate Degree in Nursing
One (1) year recent acute care experience
Able to perform basic mathematical calculations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Current California RN License
Current AHA BLS
Current AHA ACLS
