As a non profit public hospital, Oak Valley relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers who are an integral component of patient care and service quality. Opportunities to volunteer abound.
Adult volunteers aid in patient comfort by serving meals and beverages and manning an information desk in the hospital lobby. Many work in hospital departments providing clerical tasks. Volunteers manage the hospital Gift Shop and use the proceeds to provide scholarships.
Individuals seeking to volunteer should have a sense of humor, a cheerful disposition and a desire to be helpful to others. Volunteers usually work four hour shifts. Those interested in volunteering can download and complete this application and mail to 350 South Oak Avenue, Oakdale CA 95361. An interview will follow. For more information call the Gift Shop at 848-4170 or email giftshop@OVHD.com
Junior volunteers work in the Care Center, the hospital and the Gift Shop after completing a unique 8 hour training program where they learn about the healthcare needs of patients and how to relate to and comfort patients. The program provides an excellent opportunity for teenagers to understand more about the healthcare industry caring for all age groups.
Junior volunteers are between the ages of 14 and 17 and must maintain a 3 point grade average at one of the schools in the area served by the hospital. Those interested must complete, with their parents, an application form; obtain a letter of recommendation from a school counselor and provide a transcript. Qualified individuals will be interviewed and recommended for training.
Applications may be picked up and returned to the Gift Shop in the hospital.
